Expert Content Out-Ranks User Reviews And Branded Content

March 25th, 2014|Tags: , , , , |

Image courtesy of www.postano.com Image courtesy of www.postano.com With the ever-rising popularity of social advertising through word-of-mouth (or WOM), branded content, and native marketing, many online marketers were surprised that the best online advertising tactic might be expert-generated content. Expert-generated content is any type of content generated by an expert in their respective field of study. The content could be generated completely independent of any paying company, or an expert may be compensated for their expertise. Studies show that people actually trust the experts more than their social media comrades when it comes to making purchasing decisions. […]

What Photos Consumers Post Say About Brands

January 11th, 2014|Tags: , , , , , , |

Men on street photographing with smart-phoneAny marketer working with or for a fairly well known brand knows the sad truth – it’s just not possible to sift through all of the online photos posted about their brand. Of course, it would be great to look at all of those photos, as it’s a great way to see how consumers really view and use the product or service. But there are only so many hours in a day! That’s where Carnegie Mellon University comes in. Eric Xing, an associate professor of machine learning, computer science, and language technologies and Gunhee Kim, a post-doctoral researcher at Disney Research have created an algorithm that mines photos from social sites like Flickr, Pinterest, and TwitPic to figure out what people think of the brand based on variables in the photo. Unfortunately, the researchers couldn’t include Facebook, because they block public crawling. Obviously a letdown, since Facebook is the social site with the largest number of shared photos. But, even without Facebook, the data is pretty exciting. Digiday spoke to Gunhee Kim about the photo algorithm, what the data mining can mean for brands, and how marketers can use the data to their advantage. Here are some of the highlights from the interview. […]

Why P&G’s Emotional Olympics Ad Is So Effective

January 7th, 2014|Tags: , , , |

How can your marketing efforts stand apart from the competition? Creating content that tugs at human emotion is a great way to connect with consumers and create an authentic relationship with your brand. Emotional ads show that companies are really just made up of people, who feel the same way you do. Ahead of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia this coming February, Procter & Gamble found a way to get into our hearts while still promoting their brands, P&G’s 2012 London Olympics ‘Tribute to Moms’ ad thanked those that are truly behind the scenes – the moms behind the athletes. The ad focused on moms as the driving force and rock behind children that become world-class athletes. That ad was viewed over 21 millions times. […]

Facebook’s Video Ads – What You Need to Know

December 17th, 2013|Tags: , , , , |

1-300x168It’s happening. Facebook is launching video ads. No, the new ad platform isn’t a large scale, autoplay video ad strategy originally discussed, but Facebook is aggressively marketing their new in-post, user-initiated video ad products. Facebook is asking its marketing developer partners (called PMDs) to pitch their clients Facebook ads. They’ve distributed a slide deck for pitching these ads. The presentation tries very hard to convince advertisers that Facebook isn’t just an alternative to TV advertising, but that it actually reaches more people than TV ads can. You can view the full slide deck here, but here are some of the highlights: […]

July 19th, 2012|

Did you feel a cold shiver rush down your spine yesterday? Have the urge to issue a blood-curdling scream? Join the club. On July 18, Google officially pulled the plug on the old version of Google Analytics. And for those of us that resist change, this was a big deal. (Like when you were finally forced to switch over to Facebook Timeline against your will.) Though Google rolled out the new Analytics platform almost a year ago, it left the option to use the old version of Google Analytics. This was a move appreciated by all those that fear new platforms. After all, who wants to relearn how to navigate an entirely new interface? All you had to do was click back to the old version and there you were, cradled in the embrace of familiarity. […]
