Time is always moving forward. And with time, everything else moves forward. Marketing is definitely no exception. With the rise in technology, AI, and multiple realities, marketing has changed dramatically in the last 20 years and the four Ps have definitely changed to reflect this. But even with the digital shift, there’s certain things that have stood the test of time and remain tried and true even in today’s day and age.

There’s Always a Need to Learn

As mentioned before, marketing has changed a lot. This means that new research, tools, and methods are always coming out. Essentially, there’s something new to learn every day. So branch out of your specialization and learn everything you can as this will make you a more well rounded marketer. Plus, it’s fun to learn new things!

Trial & Error Will Happen

This is why we have A/B testing and focus groups. We spend time researching to understand what works, what doesn’t, and what might work. Don’t be afraid to fail. Mistakes are how you learn and that’s okay. The difference now is that social media can spread mistakes like wildfire. Even the most established brands go through this, which is why it’s important to take control of the situation early before it’s out of your hands.

Pay Attention to Your Customers’ Actions

You can have all of the initiatives, strategies, emails, and testimonials, but if it’s not driving revenue then it might as well be for nothing. Now with heatmaps and browser recordings, there are ways to see how your customers are browsing, what they’re looking at, and at what point do they leave. But also, pay attention to what they’re saying. Social media can affect your brand’s image. Any negative comments can be fixed, but if you leave them unattended, it will hurt.

In a time of constant change, it’s nice to see that some things stay consistent. Whether it’s about marketing or customers, we should always strive to learn more and look to these three consistencies.
